Calasetta, “the white” town on Sant’Antioco Island

Sharing is caring!

Calasetta is a town located on Sant’Antioco Island. It is known as the ‘white‘ because of the prevailing color of the houses and its beautiful beaches. mangiabarche lighthouse

The most important rule I learnt on Sant’Antioco island is that this part of the island is sheltered by east and southeast wind but it is totally exposed to mistral wind. I recommend you get familiar with winds in order not to spoil any day of your visit on Sant’Antioco Island. #winds

For its historical origins Calasetta is twinned with Genoa Pegli and it is honorary municipality of the Metropolitan Area of Genoa. As a matter of fact, Calasetta and the nearby town of Carloforte (on San Pietro Island) are linguistically tabarkinian islands (Genoese slang). This cultural peculiarity is due to the colonization of this part of the island by Ligurian settlers coming from Tunisian coasts (to know more on Calasetta origins, please double click here).
